The elements of design including line, shape, direction, size, texture, color, and value. Although not all of these elements must be used in every form of art, you can usually find most of them in any form of art and can usually easily identify them. Each element has it's own job. Lines are linear strokes or edges, direction is what direction a line takes, and value is the contrast, texture is the surface of a shape (rough/smooth). Shape, size, and color are all self explanatory and probably some of the most used in art. These are all a necessity for design and art, although we aren't required to involve all of them in our art.
This is an example of lines in art, the lines lead our eyes to a certain point in the picture, which was the artist's design.
This is a great example of color, because the artist did a great job with pairing the colors by each other in an order for them to pop would pop.

In this example, the photographer captures the shapes (circles & rectangles) of the paint containers.
The lines (curved & straight) are slowly forming a design.
These circles are displayed in many different sizes, displaying variety in the picture.
I absolutely love the texture in this picture, that's what I love about oil paint so much!

The value in this picture is portrayed by the contrast of the orange leaf against the wood.
