The elements of design including line, shape, direction, size, texture, color, and value. Although not all of these elements must be used in every form of art, you can usually find most of them in any form of art and can usually easily identify them. Each element has it's own job. Lines are linear strokes or edges, direction is what direction a line takes, and value is the contrast, texture is the surface of a shape (rough/smooth). Shape, size, and color are all self explanatory and probably some of the most used in art. These are all a necessity for design and art, although we aren't required to involve all of them in our art.
This is an example of lines in art, the lines lead our eyes to a certain point in the picture, which was the artist's design.
